Antje Schwalb

Professor Antje Schwalb serves as Director of the Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication at the Technical University of Braunschweig, within the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences. She leads an international research team conducting cutting-edge environmental and paleoclimate studies using lake sediments as natural archives.

Professor Schwalb's research program focuses on paleoenvironmental reconstruction through the analysis of lake sediments, with expertise spanning paleoclimate, paleolimnology, paleoecology, and paleohydrology. Her work demonstrates remarkable geographic breadth, with research sites spanning multiple continents including:

As Director of the Institute, Professor Schwalb oversees a multidisciplinary research team comprising Emma Cameron, Deepak Kumar Chinnaswamy, Dr. Katharina Dulias, Kathrin Marx, Dr. Katrin Naumann, Luis Victoria Nogales, Dr. Sonja Rigterink, Dr. Anja Schwarz, and Britta Sülzbrück. The Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication functions as a hub for environmental research utilizing geological and biological indicators to understand past and present ecosystem dynamics.
