Anthony W. Crowell serves as Dean and President of New York Law School and Professor of Law, a role he has held for 14 years. He also directs the Center for New York City and State Law, positioning NYLS as a leader in 21st-century legal education with a focus on New York government, experiential learning, and innovative programs like Think BIG curriculum and NYLS Pro for working professionals.
His educational background includes:
- B.A. from University of Pennsylvania (1992, magna cum laude)
- J.D. from American University (1997, cum laude)
Crowell's research centers on state and local government law, civics education, and leadership development, informed by his decade-long service as Counselor to Mayor Michael Bloomberg. He champions place-based learning through expanded clinical programs and high-tech training centers housing 20+ experiential clinics in Lower Manhattan.
His distinguished recognition includes:

As an academic leader, Crowell integrated career development with academic planning to achieve NYLS's strongest job placement outcomes, while establishing the Washington D.C. Honors Externship and Gotham Honors Program. His governance extends to the NYC Planning Commission, Brooklyn Public Library Board (23-year trustee), and NYC Bar Association.
Under his direction, NYLS developed specialized centers for financial services, technology/IP, and government law, alongside a state-of-the-art clinical training facility that serves as the hub for civic engagement initiatives across New York City.
