Anthony V Alfieri is a Professor of Law and the Michael Klein Distinguished Scholar Chair at the University of Miami's School of Law. He also serves as Founding Director of the Center for Ethics and Public Service, overseeing the Black Church Program, Community Equity Lab, and Legal Profession Program. In a secondary appointment, he is a Professor of Public Health Sciences at the Miller School of Medicine. His work bridges legal ethics, civil rights advocacy, and social justice, with a focus on race, poverty, and systemic inequities.
Alfieri’s research examines racial trauma in legal representation, ethics in lawyering, and strategies for addressing urban poverty. He has pioneered trauma-informed approaches to civil rights litigation and critiques the inadequacies of current legal canons in addressing marginalized communities. His interdisciplinary work integrates historical analysis, sociocultural context, and clinical pedagogy to reimagine antiracist and equitable legal practices.
Through his leadership roles, Alfieri fosters collaborations between legal institutions, public health systems, and community organizations to advance equity. Key initiatives include the Community Equity Lab, which develops actionable solutions for systemic disparities, and the Black Church Program, which leverages faith-based networks for social change.
