Anthony R. Lowry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Utah State University (USU). His research focuses on geophysics and geodynamics, particularly crustal deformation, fault mechanics, and mantle dynamics. He has advised three graduate students and holds significant awards including the 2011 AGU Editors’ Citation for Excellence in Refereeing. Educated at the University of Utah (PhD, 1994) and University of Wyoming (BS/MS), Lowry has been a leader in geophysical research across continental and planetary scales.
Teaching specialties include seismology, applied geophysics, and inverse theory. His work integrates geodetic, seismic, and thermal data to understand tectonic processes. Notable contributions include studies on the western U.S. Cordillera, mantle flow dynamics, and fault slip mechanisms. Lowry’s publications span leading journals like Nature, Geology, and Journal of Geophysical Research.
