Dr. Andrew V. Zuza is an Associate Professor at the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, part of the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. He serves as Field Camp Director and has held roles including Assistant Professor (2016–2022) and Research/Teaching Assistant at UCLA (2011–2016). His education includes a B.S. from Cornell University (2011) and a Ph.D. from UCLA (2016).
Research focuses on structural geology and tectonics, continental deformation, and orogenic plateau evolution. Key interests include metamorphic core complexes, Tibetan Plateau formation, and crustal dynamics. Techniques include field-based structural analysis, geochronology, and numerical modeling.
Recent work explores buoyant upwelling in continental crust, strike-slip fault mechanics, and crustal rheology. Publications span metamorphic processes, mantle dynamics, and Himalayan-Tibetan tectonics. Active field projects include the North American Cordillera and Central Asia.
Labs/teams: Collaborates on multi-disciplinary projects integrating field and analytical methods. Current grants include studies on Cordilleran hinterland dynamics and Tethyan Himalaya tectonics.
