Assoc. Prof. Tuna Eken is an associate professor at the Department of Geophysical Engineering, Istanbul Technical University. He holds a PhD from Uppsala University and has served in administrative roles such as Vice Dean and Vice President of Department. His research focuses on seismic anisotropy, mantle dynamics, and tectonic processes in Anatolia and surrounding regions. He has led projects funded by institutions like TUBITAK and Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, exploring crustal and mantle structures using seismic tomography and receiver functions.
- Education: PhD in Geophysics (Uppsala University), MA in Geophysics (Bogazici University)
Research interests include fault zone dynamics, seismic wave attenuation, and upper mantle deformation. His recent work investigates mantle flow patterns in the Mediterranean and seismic anisotropy along the North Anatolian Fault Zone. He has advised multiple graduate students on topics like coda wave analysis and crustal velocity imaging. Awards include the 2023 Academic Performance Award and 2016 EGU Outstanding Student Poster Award.
Key collaborations involve institutions in Europe and Turkey, with a focus on international seismological networks. Current projects model high-resolution crustal structures and mantle anisotropy using multi-frequency seismological data.
