Anthony McGoron is a Professor and Undergraduate Program Director in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University. His research focuses on molecular imaging, drug delivery systems, and image-guided therapies. Current projects include developing radiopharmaceuticals for cancer diagnosis/therapy, 3D cell culture models for treatment evaluation, and AI-driven medical imaging analysis tools.
Research interests span nuclear medicine (PET/SPECT), bioengineering of nanoparticles, and extracellular vesicle biology. Notable innovations include a novel 3D liver segmentation algorithm for radiation therapy planning and chitosan-based microspheres for dual diagnostic/therapeutic applications. His work bridges molecular biology with clinical translation, addressing challenges in targeted cancer therapy and treatment efficacy assessment.
- Developed FLT/PET imaging protocols for pancreatic tumor proliferation analysis
- Pioneered BRAF/RAS mutation-based thyroid cancer theranostics
- Created FDA-compliant biodegradable microspheres for radiation therapy
Recent studies emphasize organoid models for EV research and SIRT treatment optimization through quantitative perfusion imaging. His lab maintains active collaborations in both basic science and clinical applications.
