Thuy Tran is a Senior Researcher and Associate Professor at the Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet. She earned her PhD in Biomedical Radiation Science from Uppsala University (2009) and a Master's in Medical Radionuclide Technology from the same institution (2008). Her research focuses on the development of radioactive drugs for cancer diagnostics and therapy, particularly using PET imaging and cyclotron-produced radiometals.
- Pharmacy Degree, Uppsala University (2005)
- Master's Degree in Medical Radionuclide Technology, Uppsala University (2008)
- PhD in Biomedical Radiation Science, Uppsala University (2009)
- Associate Professor in Experimental Oncology, Lund University (2016)
Her work emphasizes Molecular Imaging, Radiopharmaceuticals, and Drug Development for cancer theranostics. She leads the TRANSlational Theranostics group, which explores radiolabeled antibodies, affibody molecules, and novel tracers for tumors with slow kinetics.
Thuy Tran's recent publications (2025-2023) highlight advancements in Gallium-68 production, optimized PET tracers like [68Ga]Ga-ABY-025 and [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-PEG2-RM26, and clinical evaluations of radiolabeled compounds for prostate, breast, and brain cancers. Her studies also address automated synthesis methods and pharmacokinetics in preclinical models.
The Tran Lab specializes in multi-modality imaging techniques, including PET/CT, SPECT/CT, and MRI, for cancer diagnostics and cell therapy monitoring. Key research areas include
- Radiopharmaceutical Development
- Tumor Targeting
- Radioimmunotherapy
- Medical Imaging Protocols
- Theranostic Applications
