Anthony McDonnell serves as Dean and Chair of Human Resource Management at the Cork University Business School (CUBS), University College Cork. As Dean, he leads a team of over 150 academic and professional staff dedicated to cultivating an inclusive environment where knowledge thrives through impactful research and learning, developing future leaders to transform business for a more sustainable society.
Prior to joining UCC in November 2016, Professor McDonnell held significant academic positions including Head of the Management Group and Reader in Management at Queen's University Belfast, and appointments at the University of South Australia and University of Newcastle (Australia).
Research Expertise
Professor McDonnell has established a global reputation in the HRM community as a prolific research scholar and leader. His research focuses on:
- International Human Resource Management - examining cross-cultural HR practices and global talent strategies
- Talent Management - strategic approaches to identifying, developing, and retaining key personnel across organizations
- Future of Work - analyzing emerging trends, technological impacts, and evolving workplace structures

Research Funding
