Anthony Macris

Anthony Macris is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Technology Sydney, where he teaches literature and creative writing. With over three decades of experience in education at institutions like Johns Hopkins University, his work bridges creative practice and academic research in literary theory, poststructuralism, and narrative studies.

His research interests span literary theory, film studies, and narrative macrostructures, focusing on how authors like Henry James and John Gardner conceptualize storytelling. He has published extensively in journals including Screening the Past and International Journal for the Practice and Theory of Creative Writing.

Macris’s creative output includes the Capital series, the autism memoir When Horse Became Saw (shortlisted for Prime Minister’s Literary Awards), and Aftershocks: Selected Writing and Interviews. His articles and creative works explore themes of migrant identity, health systems, and urban Australian life.
