Dr Anthony Liu is a Senior Lecturer in Paediatrics at the Sydney Medical School Nepean, University of Sydney, affiliated with the Charles Perkins Centre Nepean and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He holds an Honorary Associate role in General Medicine. His career includes a Masters in Public Health (2004) and a Masters in Medical Education, alongside 12 years as Head of the Department of Paediatrics at Nepean Hospital (2005–2017). His research focuses on developmental origins of health and disease, maternal-neonatal interactions, and pediatric diabetes. He collaborates widely, including on projects like fetal origins of diseases and AI-driven fetal ultrasound analysis.
Research interests include perinatal medicine, substance use in pregnancy, and the effects of maternal obesity. Key themes are Reproductive, Maternal, and Child Health, with a focus on lifespan contexts. He has contributed to studies on First Nations maternal health, pediatric obesity, and the psychosocial impacts of diabetes during the pandemic. His work often integrates data linkage methodologies and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Grant activity includes a 2008 study on maternal nutritional status in opiate-dependent pregnancies. He advises on medical education and clinical practices, with a strong emphasis on community-based pediatric care in the Nepean Blue Mountains region.
