معرفی
Ralph Nanan is a Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health at the Sydney Medical School Nepean and serves as the Director of the Charles Perkins Centre Nepean. He is also a Project Node Leader for the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) initiative. His work bridges paediatric immunology, allergy research, and maternal-fetal medicine with a focus on immune mechanisms in pregnancy-related complications.
- Member of the Brain and Mind Centre
- Member of the Charles Perkins Centre
Professor Nanan’s research investigates how maternal factors (e.g., diet, diabetes, obesity) influence fetal immune development and long-term health outcomes. His group explores regulatory T cells in pregnancy complications like preeclampsia, food allergy prevention, and gut microbiome effects. Notably, he leads a $1.13 million NHMRC-funded study on peanut allergy treatment and the PrEggNut Study examining maternal diet impacts on offspring allergies.
Recent publications highlight his work on maternal nutrition and immune programming, with a focus on antibiotic dysbiosis, macronutrient-asthma links, and fetal cardiac strain in diabetic pregnancies. His studies often employ multi-omics approaches and fetal ultrasound for biomarker discovery.
- Paul Harris Fellow Award 2014
He supervises research students like Camille Potier and collaborates with institutions such as the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and the Charles Perkins Centre. His lab contributes to translational studies in neonatal care and immune modulation.
