Anthony Kinik is an Associate Professor of Film Studies at Brock University’s Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film. He specializes in documentary film, experimental cinema, and the cinematic representation of urban environments. He co-edited The City Symphony Phenomenon: Cinema, Art, and Urban Modernity Between the Wars (Routledge, 2019), a groundbreaking study of interwar experimental documentaries. Kinik holds a Ph.D. from McGill University, alongside degrees from UBC and McGill in Film and English studies.
His research focuses on city symphonies, Quebec cinema, and the intersection of film with popular music. He teaches courses such as FILM 3R90 Sound + Vision: The Rockumentary, blending rock music and documentary forms. Active in film communities, he participates in the Brock University Film Society and Mighty Niagara Film Festival.
Kinik’s current project explores 1960s Montreal as a cinematic city. His writing has appeared in journals like Shima and Food & Wine. He maintains a long-running food blog, …an endless banquet, celebrating Canadian culinary culture.
