Professor Anthony J Wilkinson is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of York, part of the York Structural Biology Laboratory. His research focuses on structural biology to study proteins involved in disease, drug targets in pathogens, and cellular fate processes in bacteria like Bacillus subtilis and Clostridium difficile. He holds a PhD from Imperial College London and has conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University and the University of York.
His research interests include structural analysis of enzymes related to Leishmaniasis and malaria, and the molecular mechanisms of spore formation in bacteria. Notable collaborations include projects on drug development for parasitic diseases and understanding protein interactions in bacterial systems. He has been awarded the International Prize of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (2015) for his contributions.
- Education: PhD in Protein Engineering (Imperial College London), Postdoctoral work at Harvard and York Universities.
- Key Projects:
- Development of nanomachines for enzyme synthesis.
- Structural studies of Leishmania proteins and antimalarial drug targets.
- Investigations into bacterial sporulation mechanisms.
His work spans interdisciplinary approaches, combining structural biology with biochemical and pharmacological methods to address critical questions in pathogen biology and drug discovery.
