Anthea Behm is an Associate Professor of Photography at the University of Florida’s School of Art & Art History. She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Her interdisciplinary practice spans photography, video, and performance, focusing on conceptual materialism and exploring obscured social narratives through material and process. Behm co-directs the Interdisciplinary Art & Theory Program at Jack Shainman Gallery, NYC, and was part of THE NEW INSTITUTE’s program 'The Human Condition in the 21st Century.'
Her work critically examines power dynamics in art history, notably through reinterpreting Edward Weston’s photographs of Charis Wilson. Exhibitions include the Centre Pompidou (Paris), Smack Mellon (NY), and the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki). Her research has been featured in The New York Times, X-TRA, and Art & Australia. She also contributed to Feminism Reframed: Reflections on Art and Difference and participated in prestigious programs like the Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program and Skowhegan School.
