معرفی
Anthony McCall is a British-born, New York-based artist and Professor at The European Graduate School (EGS). His work spans sculpture, installation, film, and drawing, pioneering the 'Solid Light Works' series since 1973. He studied art history, photography, and graphic design at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design (1964–1968) and was a pivotal member of the London Filmmakers’ Co-op before moving to New York in 1973.
McCall’s groundbreaking Line Describing a Cone (1973) uses projected light to create immersive 3D forms. After a 20-year hiatus, he revived the Solid Light series with digital projections like Doubling Back (2003). His later works explore vertical forms (Breath series) and diagonal convergences (Coming About, 2016). Exhibitions include solo shows at Tate Britain, Centre Pompidou, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
His work emphasizes real-time spatial experience, rejecting referential forms. Awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship (2008) and an Arts and Letters Award (2016). Collections holding his work include MoMA, Tate, and the Whitney Museum.
