Dr. Fenton’s scholarship centers on the vital role and experiences of understudied and disadvantaged cancer caregivers and their impact on patients and care delivery. Employing rigorous mixed-methods designs, she investigates three primary caregiving populations: (1) adult-children caring for a parent with advanced cancer—who must juggle careers and young families; (2) racial/ethnic minority caregivers confronting heightened financial burdens and discrimination; and (3) rural caregivers navigating scarce, distant healthcare resources.
Awards & Honors:
- 2022 Sidney Farber Scholar Award
- Ruth L. Kirschstein T32 Postdoctoral Fellowship
- Institute for Quantitative Social Science Inequality Fellowship
Grants & Current Work:
Dr. Fenton is presently developing and piloting an intervention—tailored specifically for adult-child caregivers—to enhance communication with both their parents with cancer and their broader social networks, thereby fortifying social support and caregiver well-being.
Laboratory & Team:
She leads a research lab embedded within the Dana-Farber Division of Population Sciences that is dedicated to generating evidence-based insights and scalable interventions aimed at mitigating caregiver burden and improving outcomes for vulnerable oncology populations.
