Dr. Annie Bauer is Assistant Professor in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she leads the Bauer Earth Evolution Group. Her research investigates Earth's evolution as a habitable planet through geochronology, radiogenic isotope systems, and crustal evolution studies.
Bauer's work focuses on the Acasta Gneiss Complex as a window into early tectonic regimes, oxygenation history through Proterozoic sedimentary records, and analytical development in isotope geochemistry. She directs the Wisconsin ICP-TIMS Lab, specializing in high-precision U-Th-Pb, Lu-Hf, and Re-Os analyses.
Recent publications demonstrate advances in understanding the Archean-Paleoproterozoic transition, zircon geochemistry for tectonic reconstructions, and novel methods for small-volume isotopic analysis. Bauer teaches courses in National Park Geology, Geochemistry, and Astrobiology while actively promoting diversity in geosciences through committee leadership.
