Emily E. Mixon is a Researcher II and Lab Manager at the SLEUTH Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by Dr. Andrea Dutton. Her work focuses on past climate and sea level change, carbonate and isotope geochemistry, sedimentary systems, and method development for isotope analysis. She holds a PhD from UW-Madison (2020–2024) and previously contributed to the WiscAr Lab (2018–2020), advancing noble gas mass spectrometry techniques.
Her research interests include Archean crustal evolution, zircon isotopic analysis, volcanic activity in the Andes, and geochemical tracers of sediment subduction. Mixon collaborates widely, including with the European Research Council MEET Project and the UW-Madison Earth Evolution Group. She emphasizes promoting equity in geosciences through initiatives like GeoReadingForEquity and Letters to a Pre-Scientist.
As Lab Manager, she oversees the SLEUTH Lab’s clean facilities and instrumentation, supporting students and researchers in U-Th dating and climate studies. Her technical expertise spans LA-ICP-MS, SIMS, and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology.
Key Projects:
- Archean crust reworking via zircon δ18O studies (Saglek-Hebron Complex)
- Calbuco Volcano eruptive history (Chile)
- Method development for NGX-600 noble gas spectrometry
Community Contributions:
- Founder of PETRONET, an antiracist geoscience network
- Advocate for inclusive geoscience education and equity
- Active member of GEMS and PetroNet communities
