Anneloes Kuiper is an Assistant Professor at the Molengraaff Institute for Private Law under the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance at Utrecht University. She co-directs the Master’s program in Private Law and teaches courses including International and European Accountability and Liability Law and Climate Change Accountability and Liability as a visiting professor at Bucerius Law School (Hamburg, Germany). Her work bridges international law, liability law, human rights, and climate change litigation.
Research Interests include the interaction between international, European, and national law, focusing on
- Application of international law in civil courts
- Corporate accountability for climate change
- Human rights integration into tort law
- Legal remedies for environmental harm
- Soft law instruments in liability determinations
Recent Publications analyze trends in climate litigation, corporate due diligence obligations, and multi-layered legal orders, with empirical studies on private law remedies and EU regulatory enforcement. She has contributed to edited volumes like Corporate Accountability and Liability for Climate Change and peer-reviewed journals such as Law and Philosophy and Overheid en Aansprakelijkheid.
Professional Engagements include membership in the Utrecht Centre for Accountability and Liability Law (UCALL) and the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM). She serves on the editorial board of Liability, Insurance & Damage and participated in projects like the British Institute of International and Comparative Law’s Global Corporate Climate Tactics.
