Dr Anneliese Synnot is a Senior Research Fellow at Cochrane Australia, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University. She serves as the Consumer Engagement Lead for the Australian Living Evidence Collaboration (ALEC) and the Living Evidence for Pregnancy and Postnatal care (LEAPP) guidelines. She is actively involved in research, mentoring, and PhD supervision.
Her educational background includes a PhD and Master of Public Health from La Trobe University and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) from the University of South Australia.
Annie's research focuses on consumer and patient involvement in evidence-based healthcare, particularly in the development and use of living guidelines and systematic reviews. She has pioneered methods for integrating patients, carers, and citizens as partners in the production and dissemination of clinical evidence. Her work supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being through inclusive, equitable research practices.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong trend in stakeholder engagement, methodological innovation in living guidelines, and the practical implementation of evidence in clinical settings. She has published extensively in high-impact journals such as the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology and Systematic Reviews.
She is an Editor with Cochrane Consumers and Communication and has previously worked at the Centre for Health Communication and Participation, La Trobe University.
Annie has been involved in major research projects, including the MuSE project on stakeholder engagement in healthcare evidence syntheses and the update of national clinical practice guidelines for pregnancy and postnatal care. She collaborates with national and international researchers and policymakers, and mentors numerous early-career researchers in systematic review methods.
She is part of active research teams at Cochrane Australia, focusing on evidence synthesis, qualitative methods, and implementation strategies.
