Annelie Sundler is a Professor of Caring Science at the University of Borås, affiliated with the Faculty of Caring Science, Work Life and Social Welfare and the Department of Caring Science. Her research focuses on patient-centered care, communication in healthcare, patient safety, pedagogical research in healthcare education, and existential aspects of care. She leads the Applied Healthcare and Communication Research group and holds roles such as Research Supervisor for the Human Perspective in Care, Vice-Chair of the Research and Education Board, and Editorial Board Member of BMC Nursing.
Her research spans topics including sepsis management, mental health in children/adolescents, HIV in older adults, and welfare technology. She has supervised numerous doctoral students (e.g., Ida Kleye, Tanja Gustafsson) and contributed to over 100 publications. Notable studies include interventions improving communication skills in nursing assistants and qualitative analyses of patient experiences with sepsis and mental health services.
Key collaborations include the Vårdforskning i Samverkan (ViS) initiative in Western Sweden. Her work emphasizes integrating patient perspectives into healthcare practices and advancing evidence-based communication strategies in clinical settings.
