Annegret Stephan is a Researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) since January 2022, working in the Department of Energy Technologies and Energy Systems. Previously, she held postdoctoral and senior researcher roles at ETH Zurich’s Group for Sustainability and Technology (2017–2021). She earned her PhD in innovation in energy technologies from ETH Zurich (2013–2016) and a Diplom in Business Engineering from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
Her research focuses on technological innovation for clean energy systems, particularly sector coupling (energy and transport), electric mobility, and battery technologies. She teaches the course Energy Innovation and Management at ETH Zurich and has conducted research stays at UTS (Australia) and UCL (UK). Practical experience includes internships at McKinsey & Company and Lufthansa.
Key research themes include battery production scalability, policy frameworks for European industry, smart charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, and knowledge spillovers in innovation systems. Her work bridges academic research with industry applications, addressing challenges like cost reduction in battery technologies and grid integration of renewable energy.
Publications emphasize policy analysis, technical challenges in V2X systems, and socio-technical transitions. She collaborates on projects like the Lithium-Ion Battery Roadmap 2030+ and Alternative Battery Technologies Roadmap, guiding sustainable energy transitions.
