Associate Professor Annegret Engel holds dual roles as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in the Department of Law at Lund University. Her research focuses on EU constitutional law, delimitation of competences, legal basis litigation, and digitalization policies under the DMA/DSA frameworks. She has contributed significantly to understanding overlaps in EU competences and institutional conflicts through over 45 publications. Engel leads the 2021–2023 project on EU Charter of Fundamental Rights applications in competition law and digital markets. She co-organized major conferences like the Nordic Journal of European Law and the European Law Moot Court Competition, emphasizing practical legal training.
Her work bridges academia and policy, addressing key issues such as digital governance, fundamental rights in digital spaces, and Brexit legal implications. Engels has received notable recognition, including a summa cum laude PhD distinction (2014) and Ustinov College Scholarships (2009, 2011). Current research trends include regulatory frameworks for digital markets, legal basis strategy in EU legislation, and transnational governance challenges.
Engel’s publications span EU constitutional theory, digital markets acts, and competition law, with a focus on balancing rights in digital regulation. Awards include three major distinctions reflecting her scholarly impact. She actively participates in editorial roles, such as editor of the Nordic Journal of European Law, and organizes workshops on transparency principles in digital governance.
