Anne Schippling is a Guest Assistant Researcher in the Department of Sociology at Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon and an Integrated Researcher at CIES-Iscte - Center for Research and Studies in Sociology. She also collaborates with the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. Her research focuses on transnational education, international schools, and elite formation processes within educational systems.
Dr. Schippling earned her PhD in Educational Sciences from Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg / University of Coimbra (2002-2007) and completed her Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, French Studies, Educational Sciences, and Psychology at Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (1995-2001).
Her research interests span the sociology of education with a particular focus on transnational educational spaces, international schools (particularly IB World Schools), elite formation in educational systems, and biographical trajectories of students in international educational settings. She employs qualitative research methods, particularly group interpretation techniques, to examine how educational experiences shape identity formation and social positioning in global contexts. Her work critically engages with concepts of global citizenship education and examines the role of international schools in reproducing or challenging social inequalities.
Dr. Schippling's recent publications reveal a consistent focus on the expansion of international education in Portuguese-speaking contexts, with particular attention to International Baccalaureate schools in Brazil, Portugal, and Mozambique. Her research demonstrates how international schools function as sites for the production of transnational capital and global citizenship identities, while also reflecting and reinforcing existing social hierarchies. She has made significant methodological contributions to the study of educational biographies in transnational contexts.

Since 2019, she has been a founder of the international network 'Transnationalization and Education,' connecting universities in Portugal, Brazil, and Germany.
