Sandra Palma Saleiro is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at ISCTE-IUL – University Institute of Lisbon, where she also serves as a Guest Assistant Researcher. She is an Integrated Researcher at CIES-Iscte – Center for Research and Studies in Sociology, contributing to the research group 'Gender, Life Course and Health.' Her academic and research profile centers on gender studies, transgender issues, gender diversity, and public policy evaluation.
Her PhD thesis, Transgenders. A Sociological Approach to Gender Diversity (2013), was a pioneering work in mapping gender diversity in Portuguese society. She has led significant national and international research projects, including the National Study on the Needs of LGBTI People (2021–2022), the FCT-funded project 'Gender Diversity, Citizenship and Health' (2016–2022), and the Cávado + Igual initiative in collaboration with Norway.
Her research interests span Gender Studies, Transgender Rights, Gender Identity, Public Policy Evaluation, Social Inequalities, and LGBTI Health. She has extensively published and contributed to public discourse through media interviews, academic articles, and policy advising. Her recent work analyzes legislative impacts on gender self-determination, healthcare access for trans populations, and discrimination in employment and education.
The 15 most recent publications reflect a strong trend in gender identity law reform, trans healthcare access, social inclusion, and public policy evaluation, with a focus on Portugal and European contexts. Her work combines sociological theory with applied research to inform human rights and social justice policies.

Sandra Palma Saleiro is actively involved in research networks, notably as Co-coordinator of the Sexuality and Gender Thematic Section of the Portuguese Sociology Association (2023–2027). She has organized and participated in numerous scientific events, including conferences on gender diversity, LGBTI history, and public policy.
