Dr. Anne Maria Fehn is a Researcher and member of the HumanEVOL (Human Evolutionary Genetics) group at CIBIO-InBIO, Universidade do Porto. She holds a PhD in African Studies from the University of Cologne, focusing on the endangered Khoe-Kwadi language Ts’ixa. Her research integrates linguistics, genetics, and bioinformatics to explore population history in southern Africa, particularly in southwestern Angola and the Okavango River Basin. She leads projects on lexical exchange between Khoisan language families and has expanded her expertise in quantitative methodologies through an FCT Junior Researcher contract since 2019.
Her work spans documentary linguistics, historical linguistics, and interdisciplinary studies on population genetics. Key areas include phonology, tense-aspect morphology, and language contact in Khoe-Kwadi and Bantu languages. Current projects investigate genetic admixture and linguistic evolution in southern African populations.
Dr. Fehn’s research has been published in journals like Linguistique et Langues Africaines and Science Advances. She contributes to the Genomics Platform and ORBEA initiatives at CIBIO, advancing biodiversity and evolutionary studies.
