Anne Lene Melheim is an Associate Professor in Archaeology at the University of Oslo's Department of Archaeology. Her work focuses on Bronze Age studies, cultural heritage management, and prehistoric metallurgy. She is affiliated with the Kulturhistorisk Museum (Museum of Cultural History) and contributes to research groups like ARTSCAPE and Gendering the Nordic Past. Her research explores kinship structures, trade networks, and material culture, with particular emphasis on Scandinavian and European Bronze Age societies.
Key research interests include the social and economic roles of bronze, prehistoric currency systems, and the interpretation of rock art. She has co-edited volumes such as Gendering the Nordic Past and contributed to projects like Moving Metals, analyzing copper sources and trade routes. Her recent work examines the 'bronzification' of Scandinavia and the social life of artifacts like shaft-hole axes.
Melheim's publications span archaeological journals and edited volumes, addressing topics from Nordic Bronze Age kinship to transregional connections with the Italian Alps and India.
