Eoin Grogan is a Lecturer in the Irish Cultural Heritage department at Maynooth University's School of Celtic Studies. He holds a PhD and MA from University College Dublin (UCD), specializing in Neolithic and Bronze Age archaeology with expertise in prehistoric ceramics. His roles include Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning, and prior positions such as Research Director at the Discovery Programme (1992–2002). He co-founded the Irish Stone Axe Project and contributed to EU-funded archaeological initiatives like the European Pathways to the Cultural Landscape project.
Research focuses on prehistoric settlement patterns, funerary practices, and landscape evolution, with notable excavations at Carrig (Co. Wicklow), Lough Gur (Co. Limerick), and Moynagh Lough (Co. Meath). He has authored/co-authored 14 books and over 100 peer-reviewed articles/chapters, including seminal works like The Rath of the Synods, Tara (2005) and The prehistoric landscape of North Munster (2005). His work integrates archaeology with early Irish literature and historical studies through the Irish Cultural Heritage Centre.
Key projects include analysis of the Bronze Age cemetery at Carrig (National Museum-funded) and the Moynagh Lough crannog excavation (Royal Irish Academy-funded). He has advised on over 400 ceramic assemblage reports and presented globally at conferences in Ireland, Britain, Finland, and beyond. His contributions to Irish archaeology include advancing understanding of prehistoric social structures, technological developments, and cultural landscapes.
