Dr. Anne L Demers serves as the Department Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Health Science and Recreation at San José State University, within the College of Applied Sciences and Arts. She holds a PhD from the University of California, San Francisco (2004) and a Master of Public Health from California State University, San José (2000).
Her research focuses on disenfranchisement, mental health, and policy/service interventions for military service members, veterans, and their families. Key projects include curriculum development for veteran transition support and co-designing courses like Warriors at Home: Succeeding in College, Life and Relationships and Writing for Professionals: Skills for Veterans. She has secured funding from the California Endowment, Iraq Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund, and Blue Shield of California Foundation for initiatives such as Exploring Intimate Partner Relationship Issues among Veterans and Their Partners on College Campuses (as Co-Principal Investigator).
Dr. Demers has presented at national conferences, including the American Public Health Association and Department of Defense Task Force on Veterans’ Mental Health. Her work emphasizes community reintegration and mental health support systems.
