Anne Jerslev is a Professor of Film and Media Studies at the Department of Media, Cognition, and Communication, University of Copenhagen, holding this position since 2009. Previously, she served as Associate Professor (1994-2009) and Assistant Professor (1992-1994) at the same department, where she also earned her PhD in Film Studies in 1992. She concurrently held a Professor II position at the University of Oslo's Department of Media and Communication (2015-2017).
Her research spans foundational film studies domains including genre analysis, auteur theory, and film history, with expanding focus on media convergence and reception studies. Notable projects include directing High Tension Aesthetics: Media and Ethics in Contemporary Culture and contributing to international audience studies on Lord of the Rings and the World Hobbit Project. Her scholarship particularly examines representations of ageing women in media and celebrity culture.
Jerslev's academic service includes extensive evaluation roles for major funding bodies across Scandinavia. She has served on the Swedish Riksbankens Jubileumsfond board, Danish Research Council for Culture and Communication, and as expert advisor for research councils in Finland, Norway, and Sweden. Domestically, she chaired censorship boards, directed the Danish Association of Film and Media Researchers, and held leadership positions including Department Head and Head of Studies at the University of Copenhagen.
