Anne Hyland is a Senior Lecturer in Music Analysis at the University of Manchester, specializing in 19th-century instrumental music with a focus on Schubert's chamber works. Her academic journey includes degrees from University College Dublin (BA, BMus, MMus) and a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2012).

Her research bridges analytical, historiographical, and philosophical approaches, with a focus on sonata and variation forms, music temporality, and editorial practices in early 19th-century Viennese music. She is particularly known for her monograph on Schubert's string quartets and collaborative work on micro-theories of Romantic form.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in Schubert's formal innovations, Chopin's sonata structures, and Joseph Mayseder's quartets, often integrating historical evidence and reconstructive methodologies. She has supervised numerous dissertations and taught modules on Schenkerian Analysis, Neo-Riemannian Theory, and Historically Informed Analysis.
