Anne Hovgaard Jørgensen

Anne Hovgaard Jørgensen is a Research Fellow at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Aarhus University, affiliated with The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and the CASTOR research group. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Aarhus University (2019) and currently holds two postdoctoral positions: in the 'PARENT' project (2021–2026) investigating state-endorsed parenting techniques and in the 'RELATIONAL POLICING' project studying minoritized youth's interactions with police.

Her research focuses on family-state encounters, at-risk families/youth, masculinity, ethnographic fieldwork, and educational inequalities. She examines themes like mistrusted masculinity among migrant fathers, parenting policies, and the sociological implications of policing practices. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education, gender equality, and social inclusion.

Jørgensen teaches Gender, Minority, and Intersectionality Theory in Sociology Education and supervises students in the Master of Social Work program. She has published widely on topics including migrant fathers' school involvement, therapeutic parenting courses, and the marginalization of ethnic minorities. Her research has been featured in journals like Families, Relationships and Societies and Dansk Pædagogisk Tidsskrift.

Her recent articles highlight therapeutic grammar in parenting programs, the construction of 'dangerous masculinity,' and the navigation of criminal youth with police. She actively participates in academic networks like Nettverk for forskning om foreldreskap i Norden and conferences on family sociology and criminology.

Jørgensen's grants include the Independent Research Fund Denmark for the PARENT project. She advocates for social justice through her research, as evidenced by her participation in public debates on ceasefire efforts and human rights.
