Anne George is the Brodie Tooth Development Genetics Research Professor, UIC Distinguished Professor, and Professor of Oral Biology at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry. She leads the Brodie Tooth Development Genetics & Regenerative Medicine Research Laboratory where she mentors students and research specialists.
Her research focuses on:
- Regeneration of dentin using proteins
- Cloning dentin matrix protein genes from mineralized dentin matrix
- Molecular mechanisms of ordered mineralization in dentin
- Biomimetics and tissue engineering for dental and bone repair
Dr. George's innovative work aims to revolutionize dental care by developing protein-based approaches to regenerate dentin rather than using traditional amalgam fillings. Her research shows how dentin matrix protein 1 can bind calcium and stimulate new tissue growth when covered with polymer resin. This technology has broader applications, as these proteins can also convert stem cells into osteoblasts for faster bone fracture repair.
Her publications demonstrate consistent contributions to understanding dentin matrix proteins and their applications in tissue engineering. Through her NIH-funded laboratory, she continues to advance the field of oral biology with biomimetic approaches to tissue regeneration.
Dr. George has received significant recognition through her endowed professorships, reflecting her leadership and contributions to oral biology and regenerative medicine research.
