Konstantinos Verdelis, DDS, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, with dual appointments in the Departments of Endodontics and Oral and Craniofacial Sciences. He is a member of the School’s Center for Craniofacial Regeneration and holds a secondary appointment at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. His research focuses on mineralized tissue biology, dental materials science, and regenerative medicine, leveraging microcomputed tomography (μCT) and spectroscopic imaging. He has received NIH awards, including a K08 and F32 grants, and leads the in vivo μCT Core at the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration.
Education:
- DDS, National University of Athens (1994)
- Specialty in Endodontics, Columbia University (1998)
- PhD in Oral Biology, University of North Carolina (2006)
Research Interests: Dr. Verdelis investigates collagen structure in dentin, biomaterials for vascular grafts, and genetic factors in dental caries. His work bridges endodontics with tissue engineering, emphasizing translational applications. Recent studies include the role of CCL2 in vascular graft patency and TRPS1’s impact on tooth mineralization.
Awards:
- NIH K08 Mentored Clinical Training Award
- NIH F32 Postdoctoral Mentored Award
Labs/Teams: Oversees μCT cores and collaborates across disciplines at Pitt’s School of Medicine, School of Engineering, and Carnegie Mellon University.
