Anne Davenport

Anne Davenport serves as Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of Texas at Dallas within the SEA-PHAGES (Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science) program. She teaches undergraduate courses in both laboratory-based phage discovery (in situ) and bioinformatics (in silico) formats across multiple semesters including Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Fall 2025.

Her research focuses on phage biology and genomics, utilizing bacterial hosts like Arthrobacter globiformis for phage isolation and characterization. Through the SEA-PHAGES initiative, she integrates authentic research experiences into undergraduate education, spanning microbial ecology, genomic analysis, and evolutionary studies in hands-on classroom settings.

Dr. Davenport mentors cohorts of 5-7 students per section across sophomore to senior levels, with weekly instructional commitments ranging from 2.7 to 5.5 hours. Her course structure includes biweekly meetings for phage discovery (using microbiological techniques) and genomic analysis (employing computational methods), contributing to national efforts in science education reform through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute partnership.
