Jennifer Guerrero

Jennifer Guerrero serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at San Antonio, actively participating in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program.

Her research and teaching focus on bacteriophage discovery and genomic analysis, integrating wet-lab microbiology techniques with computational bioinformatics. She specializes in guiding undergraduate students through complete phage research cycles from isolation to genomic annotation using Microbacterium foliorum as host organisms.

During Fall 2022, Dr. Guerrero instructed 12 sophomore students in phage discovery (in situ) with 4 weekly contact hours. In Spring 2023, she led 14 sophomores through phage genomics (in silico) bioinformatics analysis, maintaining the same instructional intensity. Her work contributes to national undergraduate research initiatives through HHMI's SEA network.
