Annabeth Rosen

Annabeth Rosen is the Robert Arneson Endowed Chair in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of California Davis, where she has been a faculty member since 1997. She studied at Alfred University (BFA, 1978) and Cranbrook Academy of Art (MFA, 1981), and her career spans teaching at institutions like the Rhode Island School of Design, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Her research and artistic practice focuses on ceramic sculpture, exploring the properties of clay, slip, and glaze through a process that embraces breaking, re-firing, and accumulating fragments to challenge traditional notions of ceramic art. Her work has been featured in major exhibitions at institutions including the Contemporary Jewish Museum, the Cranbrook Art Museum, and the Denver Art Museum.

Rosen’s career is marked by significant awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship (2018), American Craft Council Fellow (2020), and a USA Fellowship Award (2016). Her sculptures are represented by P.P.O.W. Gallery in New York and Anglim Gilbert Gallery in San Francisco, and are held in collections such as the LA County Museum of Art, The Oakland Museum of Art, and The Everson Museum.
