Annabelle James is a Senior Lecturer (Marketing & Recruitment) at Teesside University, holding dual affiliations in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Law and the School of Arts and Creative Industries. She has served as Subject Group Leader for Law, Policing, and Investigation and Acting Head of Criminology, Law, and Policing. Annabelle is also a Co-opted Governor at Mackie Hill Junior and Infant School and a Governor at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. She earned an LLB (Hons) in Law and MA (Research) in Criminal Justice/Law from the University of Leeds, followed by a Professional Doctorate (EdD) from Teesside University and an MBA in Psychology from Wrexham Glyndwr University.
Her research focuses on criminal justice systems, legal reforms, and forensic science. Key themes include miscarriages of justice, evidence admissibility, and the role of criminal law in corporate governance. She has explored topics like the Criminal Cases Review Commission’s effectiveness, double jeopardy reforms, and pitfalls of video evidence in legal proceedings.
Her academic outputs critically analyze issues such as wrongful convictions, legal transparency, and technological advancements in forensic evidence.
