Tamara Levy, K.C., is an Adjunct Professor and Director of the UBC Innocence Project at the Allard School of Law (UBC). She has been active in legal academia and practice since 2004, focusing on wrongful convictions, evidence law, and criminal justice reform. A graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School (1996), she practiced as both Crown and defence counsel before specializing in advocacy for the wrongfully convicted.
Her research emphasizes systemic flaws in post-conviction disclosure, as highlighted in her 2023 report Post-Conviction Disclosure in the Canadian Context. This work critiques barriers to accessing police investigative files and proposes reforms to prevent miscarriages of justice. Levy advocates for legislative changes like Bill C-40 to establish a Misconduct of Justice Review Commission.
Recognition includes Queen’s Counsel status (2018), awarded for exceptional legal contributions. She co-founded the Criminal Defence Advocacy Society (BC) and lectures nationally on wrongful convictions. Her advocacy spans both academic and practical realms, including pro bono work and policy engagement.
