Prof. Carsten Momsen is a full Professor of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law, Free University of Berlin. He specializes in comparative criminal law, criminal procedure, economic/environmental offenses, and corporate misconduct prevention. He leads the FU Law Clinic 'Practice of Criminal Defense' and the Resumption Project addressing wrongful convictions. His work bridges academia with practice through legal clinics, international collaborations (e.g., CIHR/John Jay College), and policy advocacy.
Research focuses include miscarriages of justice, AI in criminal justice, DNA phenotyping risks, and compliance frameworks. He co-founded the German Resumption Project to correct wrongful convictions, inspired by U.S. innocence initiatives. Key projects include the CIHR Annual Report, UNA-Europa LIMA Blog, and comparative studies on criminal justice reform in the U.S. and Germany.
Teaching responsibilities include seminars on digitalization in criminal law, white-collar crime, and penal orders. He advises on corporate investigations, internal compliance structures, and legal policy reforms.
