Judge Annabelle Cortez serves as a Superior Court judge in Los Angeles County, presiding over DREAM Court for victims of commercial sexual exploitation, and joined Southwestern Law School as adjunct faculty in 2024. She earned her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego and her J.D. from the University of California Law, San Francisco, and is a member of the California State Bar.
Her teaching focuses on the intersection of child welfare and the law, drawing on extensive judicial experience in collaborative and trauma-informed courts.
Judge Cortez has held leadership roles on court committees covering access & fairness, community outreach, security, and temporary judges, and regularly participates in educational outreach programs such as Judges in the Classroom and high-school career days.
