Dr. Annabel Sheehy is a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), within the School of Nursing and Midwifery under the Faculty of Health. She holds expertise in midwifery education, particularly focusing on first-year Bachelor of Midwifery students. Her roles include First Year Clinical Subject Coordinator and teaching in anatomy, physiology, and clinical practice. She completed her PhD on midwives' workforce trajectories and continues researching early career midwives' experiences with perinatal grief and the impact of the pandemic on maternity care.
Education: Bachelor of Midwifery (Hons First Class) and PhD from UTS, along with additional qualifications in naturopathy, health science, and workplace training.
Research interests span midwifery education, perinatal mental health, workforce sustainability, and the effects of global health crises like the pandemic. Notable projects include studies on maternal mistreatment in Ethiopia and telehealth integration into midwifery training. She is a member of the Australian College of Midwives and the Centre for Midwifery, Child and Family Health at UTS.
Her work emphasizes evidence-based interventions to improve maternal care quality and midwives' resilience. Awards include the University Medal (2007) and recognition for innovative telehealth educational resources.
