Her research focuses on models of care for optimal perinatal outcomes, including epidemiological studies, complex interventions, and qualitative evaluations. She innovated the MIMA-model (Midwives' Management during second stage of labor) which reduces perineal injuries. Her work spans Sweden, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, and Malawi, addressing maternity care quality, migrant health, and midwifery-led frameworks.
Recent publications examine fetal movement counseling, waterbirth safety, migrant maternity experiences, and midwife-led care implementation in African contexts. She contributes to tools like the MIDWIZE conceptual framework for midwifery resource planning.
