Annabel Hancock is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, specialising in Medieval History with a focus on trust dynamics among merchant groups in 13th-14th century Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. She holds a DPhil from Oxford (funded by the OOC AHRC DTP and St John’s College) and prior degrees from Oriel College (BA History, 2018) and the University of York (MA Medieval Studies, 2019). Her work integrates digital humanities methodologies, particularly network analysis, to explore economic, cultural, and political histories.

Research interests span group identity formation, governance structures, and cross-cultural interactions in the premodern Mediterranean. She is fluent in multiple historical languages (Latin, Catalan, Spanish, Arabic) and advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to historical inquiry.
Her 2023 publication in Digital Scholarship in the Humanities demonstrates her expertise in applying computational methods to medieval trade studies. She has organised major conferences on trust in premodern societies and Eurasian governance, reflecting her commitment to fostering scholarly dialogue.
Awards include the prestigious Clarendon Scholarship and Beeston Scholarship (St John’s College), alongside media engagement such as a Catalonian radio interview on medieval governance. She previously taught as a Lecturer in Medieval History at Oriel College (2022-2024) and served as a Graduate Outreach Tutor for the History Faculty (2020-2023).
