Anna Spadavecchia is Reader in Innovation and Business History at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strathclyde Business School, University of Strathclyde. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds a PhD in Economic History from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has held visiting positions at Harvard Business School, Copenhagen Business School, and the University of Siena, and is actively involved in major academic organizations including the Business History Conference and the European Business History Association.

Her research centers on innovation, entrepreneurship, and business history, with a focus on international technology transfer, SMEs, clusters, and the role of financial institutions in economic development. Her work bridges economic history and contemporary innovation management, exploring how patents, corporate strategies, and public policies shape technological advancement.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in quantitative and archival-based business history, focusing on innovation dynamics, patent strategies, banking-industry relationships, and national technological specialization. These works appear in leading journals such as Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate Change, and Business History, indicating a sustained contribution to both historical and innovation studies.
