Anna Miller is an Associate Professor in Teaching in Early Childhood Education and Executive Director of the Wayne State University Early Childhood Centers, overseeing both the College of Education Early Childhood Center and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute Early Childhood Center. She also serves as an undergraduate advisor for the Early Childhood Education program in the Teacher Education Division. With over 30 years of experience in Detroit, she manages significant grants including the Michigan Department of Education's Great Start Readiness Program and the U.S. Department of Education's CCAMPIS grant, focusing on urban early childhood education and parent engagement.
Her research emphasizes innovative approaches such as translating Visual Thinking Strategies to preschool settings and integrating cutting-edge media technologies in early childhood centers. Collaborative projects include co-directing preschool paraprofessional training for Detroit Public Schools (2009-2010). She actively contributes to professional development, delivering 10-14 annual trainings for early childhood educators and serving on committees for organizations like NAEYC and the Michigan Reggio Collaborative Group.
Anna leads initiatives bridging academic research and community practice, fostering evidence-based practices in urban early education environments through pilot studies and policy advocacy.
