Anna Marmodoro is the Leonard and Elizabeth Eslick Chair and Professor of Philosophy at Saint Louis University's College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh (2006) and a Laurea in Philosophy (summa cum laude) from the Università di Pisa (2000). Her expertise spans metaphysics, ancient philosophy (including Plato, Aristotle, and Anaxagoras), medieval thinkers like Thomas Aquinas, and intersections between philosophy of science and religion.
Previously, she served as Chair of Metaphysics at Durham University (2016–2024) and held roles at the University of Oxford, including Junior Research Fellow and Official Fellow of Corpus Christi College (2007–2016). She remains an Associate Member of Oxford’s Faculty of Philosophy and is a visiting researcher at UNAM (Mexico City).
Her research emphasizes properties, causation, and composition in metaphysics, alongside historical figures from Anaxagoras to Aquinas. Major publications include Properties in Ancient Metaphysics (CUP, 2023) and Metaphysics: An Introduction (OUP, 2019, co-authored with Erasmus Mayr). She led multi-disciplinary research groups funded by the ERC, Templeton World Charity Foundation, and others.
Anna co-founded the peer-reviewed journal Dialogoi. Ancient Philosophy Today (2019–), bridging ancient and contemporary philosophy. Her work integrates historical analysis with cutting-edge metaphysical inquiry.
