Anna-Maria Marshall is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Law at the University of Illinois, with affiliations in Gender and Women's Studies, the College of Law, Global Studies Programs, and the Center for Global Studies. She holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northwestern University.
Her research focuses on governance and policy-making related to environmental issues in agriculture, particularly nutrient loss mitigation and voluntary policy adoption in Midwestern waters. She co-leads the NSF-funded INFEWS-ER project, a virtual resource center for transdisciplinary graduate education addressing Food-Energy-Water Systems challenges. Her earlier work explored legal consciousness, sexual harassment, and social movements in LGBTQ+ communities.
Marshall's research integrates law, policy, and environmental science, emphasizing stakeholder engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her recent articles address phosphorus management in agriculture, stakeholder-driven environmental governance, and graduate education in complex systems. She has collaborated with scientists, engineers, and policymakers nationwide to advance sustainable solutions.
