Anna Leshchenko is a Researcher and PhD student at the Ludwig-Uhland-Institute for Historical and Cultural Anthropology, University of Tübingen. She holds a BA in Museology (2006) and taught Museology at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU), Moscow (2009–2020). Her research focuses on museum ethics, decolonization, and the history of ICOM, with a PhD project examining controversies in museum definitions since 2022. She serves as Vice-Chair of ICOM’s ICOFOM (2019–present) and Associate Editor of Curator: The Museum Journal (2021–present). Her work bridges theory and practice, addressing taboos, activism, and digital museology.
Her research interests include decolonizing museum theory, museum activism, and the evolving role of museums in global contexts. Key contributions include co-editing Challenging the Silences (2023) and Defining the Museum of the 21st Century (2019). Recent publications explore topics like cybermuseology, planetary well-being in museum definitions, and colonial contexts in museology.
Her academic engagements include presentations at international conferences on themes such as decolonization, cybermuseology, and museum ethics. She actively collaborates with museums through frameworks like CIVIS and contributes to debates on global museum policies.
